About Bethany

Bethany McLean is an American flutist based in New York.  She is currently studying at Manhattan School of Music in the studio of Linda Chesis.  She also has a bachelors degree in flute performance from Ithaca College.  Her previous teachers have been Wendy Mehne, Furugh Djafar-Zadeh-Karimi, Joyce Catalfano, and Rita George-Simmons. She has been playing flute for 14 years, and piccolo for 9 years.

 

Bethany enjoys playing in a wide variety of ensembles. She has most recently played with the Regina Opera Company in Brooklyn, NY as second flute.  She has also held principal and piccolo positions in ensembles at Manhattan School of Music and Ithaca College.  She has performed in world renowned venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.

 

Bethany has participated in summer festivals which has allowed her perform masterclasses with Philippe Bernold, Robert Langevin, Jeffrey Khaner, Lorna McGhee, Jim Walker, Denis Bouriakov, Marianne Gedigian, Alberto Almarza, Jennifer Gunn Jonathan Keeble, Linda Toote, Christina Jennings and Zart Domburian-Eby.  She has also studied briefly with Jocelyne Roy, Ulla Millmann and Jacinthe Forand through these summer masterclasses.

  • John Philip Sousa Band Award (2015): An award given out to graduating high school seniors who exemplify superior musicianship, dependability, loyalty and cooperation.

  • Flora Brown Scholarship (2015): A merit scholarship awarded by the Ithaca College school of music.

  • Hochstein School of Music Honors Certificate (2015): An award given out to high school seniors after they complete a year of music theory, history, successful biannual juries and a senior recital
